Hey there! I’m Maria Burke, a experience and visual designer currently creating awesome experiences at IBM’s Mobile Innovation Lab. When I’m not working, I’m most likely testing recipes for my blog, doing yoga, or off on an adventure somewhere. I hate the cold, which is why I love living in warm, sunny Austin TX! I spent my undergrad years at Washington University in St. Louis studying Communication Design. In the medical world, Wash U is widely known for being a research institution, and the ComDes program was really no different in that regard. Although most of the things I made in school were books and posters, the most important thing I learned was how to conduct research for a project. While my professors were explicitly teaching me foundational skills like type, composition, and contrast, they were also instilling in me a love for research and deeply understanding the problem at hand. Since graduation, these skills have served me well in my role of experience and visual designer. I love the initial stages of a project – the research, the talking to users, the discovery of their pain points. And I love connecting all the parts and pieces and working with my team to design and create valuable experiences. You can follow me on Dribbble, Instagram, and Pinterest, or have a look at my LinkedIn profile. And if you want to chat, feel free to email me!
